ASAP (Title I Basic Skills)

Sample Parent/ Caregiver Compact Letter (K-8)

K-8 Students are identified for additional support in the areas of Mathematics and/or English Language Arts based on multiple criteria.

 ASAP at Tewksbury Elementary School, Grades K-4
Mathematics & Literacy
 

At Tier 1, students receive academic reinforcement of essential skills aligned with grade level NJ Student Learning Standards and course work. Targeted instruction support occurs during regular classroom instruction.

At Tier 2, (Title 1) students receive small group instruction in addition to regular instruction in the classroom. 

At Tier 3, (Title I) students receive pull-out support in addition to regular instruction in the classroom. Instruction is aligned with grade level standards and class work.

  Resources and Strategies, Grades K-4

  • Guided Reading- this structure provides both modeling of reading skills as well as guided practice to ensure students are properly implementing the targeted comprehension and fluency skills.
     
  • Phonemic Awareness and Word Work- provides a strong foundation in phonemic skills; letter-sound relationships, analyzing word patterns, segmenting and blending sounds, and rapid identification of high frequency words are essential skills for strong readers
     
  • Multi-Sensory Instruction- provides a specific approach for reading  which focuses on sorting, recognizing, and organizing the raw materials of language for thinking and use.

ASAP at Old Turnpike Middle School, Grades 5-8  

Mathematics & Literacy
At Tier 1, students receive academic reinforcement of essential skills aligned with grade level NJ Student Learning Standards and course work. Targeted instruction support occurs during regular classroom instruction.  

At Tier 2 (Title 1), students receive specialized support. This support is given during Enrichment & Remediation (E&R) period. Therefore, students will not miss any regular instructional courses, and instead will receive support for math or ELA at least once a week.
