Athletics

Old Turnpike School offers a wide array of activities to the student body at large. In the area of athletics, ten sports are represented. These include interscholastic cross-country; soccer; field hockey; cheerleading; basketball; baseball; softball; and track and field. In addition, a ski-club membership is available to our fifth through eighth grade student population.

Before each season the student body attends an assembly that introduces  the season’s sports and coaches. Each student is then able to collect a permission form for the sport of his or her choice, which must be returned to the appropriate coach for the chosen sport. At that time, it is the responsibility of the parent to make sure that their son or daughter has a current physical exam. Our rule is that the physical must be dated on or after the July 1st prior to each school year. Sports physicals are also offered to students in the nurse’s office at OTS before each season.

The district will supply transportation to and from away events. Only when the parent signs out the player may they take their child with them at the conclusion of the event. In all other cases the student must return to the school on the bus and then be picked up by a parent. Coaches will provide parents with directions to away games.

Because of the variables involved, each sport may be run differently. The availability of coaches and competitions along with the number of participating students are some variables. Some sports have a maximum limit of team members and others do not. Many of the sports at OTS include a “B” team if there are other “B” teams to compete against. Some sports involve a try-out and cutting process while others do not.

Each coach will provide to every team member a practice and game schedule complete with pick up times.

Following is a list of sports offered at OTS and grade requirements for each. Any questions about a specific sport should be directed toward the head Coach. Please feel free to contact the Athletic Director at any time with general questions or concerns.
