2006-2008 Goals are pending approval by Hunterdon County Department of Education

School-Wide Goals

Objective 1
By June of 2006 80% of all students in grades 1 -3 will demonstrate improvement in reading comprehension as evidenced by growth in two strategies on the Strategies Assessment for Comprehension checklist. This will be a two-year objective. The first year was devoted to staff development, analyzing current data, and investigating new instructional and assessment practices in reading comprehension. A proficiency level will be established after the administration of the strategies assessment for comprehension (SAC) in the fall (October) 2005.

Objective 2
By June of 2006-2007 there will be a reduction in incidents involving bullying or related aggressive behavior for students in Kindergarten through 4th Grade. A target goal will be established by July 2006 following the analysis of baseline data collected during the 2005-2006 school year. This is a two-year objective which will involve a first year focus on staff development in the following areas:
a) Increase knowledge of bullying and other types of relational behavior.
b) Identification of students who exhibit behavior related to bullying and relational aggressive behavior.
c) Intervention strategies to reduce bullying or relational aggressive behavior.

One of the strengths of Tewksbury Elementary is the commitment by staff and administration to constantly improve the instructional program through professional growth. This is accomplished by activities which regularly assess current practices, investigates research, and the development of new programs and activities.

The staff also pursues individual professional growth activities, as seen by the fact that over 90% of the staff have earned their masters degree or credits beyond a bachelor’s degree. As an outgrowth of the emphasis on growth and staff development the administration and staff are afforded opportunities of leadership to other districts.

Currently, positions of leadership in the Tri-County Reading Association and County Staff Development Council include Sawmill staff. Staff members have given presentations to educators in other districts at the following:

Tri-County Reading Council Fall conference
California Kindergarten Conference
Young Author’s Ceremony, Rider University
T.A.B.L.E. Conference.

Also, a number of staff members have presented workshops to other faculty through our teacher-to-teacher after-school staff development program.
